The beginnings of the museum in Speyer and Sinheim
The museum in Speyer and Sinheim are twin museums of technology that verge on similar themes – they act as two branches. The Speyer Technical Museum has its roots in Sinsheim, where an exhibition hall was set up in the “Liller Halle”, a historic factory room from 1913. Today in Speyer you can see exhibits of rare machines and vehicles that date back to the nineteenth century. The museum has over 25,000 m2 of covered area and 150,000 m2 of open areas. In 1999, the Speyer Museum received the Antonov 22, which at 64 meters is the largest serial turboprop aircraft in the world, and its wingspan is 58 meters. In 2003, however, the most famous acquisition arrived: the Boeing 747 “Jumbo Jet” placed on a steel scaffolding in front of the museum halls. It automatically became a symbol representing this place in a positive way.
