City Heidelberg

The city is located in southwestern Germany on the Neckar River at the foot of the Odenwald Mountains. Heidelberg is located about 80 kilometers south of Frankfurt am Main. As of 2018, the city had a population of 159,192. The first mention of the town comes from the thirteenth century, when it was mentioned as a castle. In 1386, the castle was destroyed in the war of succession, and later rebuilt. In 1742, Karl Theodor became the ruler of the Palatinate, and Heidelberg became one of the leading cultural centers in Europe. The castle, the bridge and the monument are among the most famous monuments of the city.

What to see in Heidelberg?

In Heidelberg, Germany, there are many things to see and do. A must-see is the castle in Heidelberg, which is a representative of German Romanticism. The Old Town is also very picturesque, with gothic tenement houses and the Neckar river flowing through them. The Königstuhl peak is another popular tourist destination as it offers great views of the city. The Philosophenweg (Philosophers’ Walk) is a nice place to walk and admire the landscapes. And finally, the Heidelberg, walk short railway is a great way to get around and see the sights.

Castle

Heidelberg Castle is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Germany. The castle is in ruins, but there is still an observation deck from which you can get a wonderful view of the city. The castle was built in the sixteenth century and was destroyed during the War of Succession in 1693. It was rebuilt partially rebuilt, and in its chambers was placed the largest barrel of wine in the world!

University Library

The Heidelberg University Library is the oldest library in one of the main intellectual centers of Calvinism and one of the main intellectual centers of Europe. It is located on Hauptstrasse in Heidelberg, Germany.

The Philosophers’ Path (Philosophenweg) is a walking route in Heidelberg that starts at the Old Bridge and crosses the river to the other side. The path winds all the way to Heidelberg Castle, from where there is a wonderful view of the city and the old town. The Path of Philosophers was created in 1817 by Charles Theodore, Elector of Bavaria, as a way to promote philosophy and intellectualism. Today it is a popular tourist attraction, and many visitors like to walk along the path admiring the beautiful scenery.

Hauptstrasse

Hauptstrasse is the main street of Heidelberg of this magnificent university town in southwestern Germany. The street is representative of the city, with a mix of traditional half-timbered houses and more modern buildings. Many of the houses date back to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

House Haus zum Ritter

Haus zum Ritter is a tenement house in Śrudmieście. It is located on Hauptstrasse, the main street of the city. The house was built at the end of the seventeenth century, during the Palatine War of Succession. It is one of the most famous buildings in Heidelberg, he has appeared in many films – also as a hotel and in many television programs.
